doesn’t enjoy a shopping trip when the seasons change? Especially when changing from winter to spring and summer. It’s time to put away all your heavy winter clothes, and start reaching for sandals, shorts and swimsuits!
While shopping for clothes can be fun, it can also be a chore. To take the pain out of seasonal clothes shopping, we’ve put together some tips to help you have more fun! Let’s get started!
1). Declutter: Give Away Everything That Doesn’t Fit
We’re all guilty of hanging on to those favourite shorts we wore several seasons ago. Who doesn’t keep them just in case they might lose weight and fit into those beautiful shorts again? The reality is if you’re shopping for new clothes you may not have room for new things until you get rid of the things that no longer fit!
Take the time to go through your wardrobe and weed out anything that doesn’t fit. While you’re at it, get rid of things you no longer wear, clothing that’s really old or in bad shape.
After this, you’ll find your closet has more space for those new, fun things you’ll buying! Plus, you’ll feel better with a job well done after cleaning out your closet and drawers.
Another idea is to go through your closet about twice a year to thin out those items you no longer use or need. Donate those items that are still usable and find a way to properly dispose of other items that are not wearable.
2). Make a Short List & a Budget
Rather than buying anything and everything you like or want, instead make a list of what you need to buy. You can even take it one step further and create a plan on how to buy what you’d like. For instance, you might consider making purchases over a few weeks. This is a great way to keep from spending your entire budget at one time, while also ensuring you don’t overspend.
Consider the number and types of temptation that await you at the store! You’ll be overwhelmed by so many products for sale, tempted by things that aren’t a good buy, and more.
So, come up with a list of the things you really need, decide on a budget and then create a plan to make these purchases over time. This way, if a sale comes up, you’ll be able to take advantage, giving you the chance to save even more money. Plus, you’ll stay on budget and get a few new pieces for your wardrobe at the same time. What could be better?
3). Invest in Classic Pieces
Rather than following the current trends, consider investing in classic pieces of clothing that will last for more than the next season or two. Fashion trends last for a few seconds before they pass away and a new trend becomes the rage.
Keep in mind that stores will push trendy clothing—no matter the time of year. It’s in their best interest to keep you buying on a regular basis, after all.
Instead, look for classic clothing that will last for years. Choose pieces and outfits that never go out of style. You’ll always look fashionable with a timeless style.
If you’d like to take advantage of trends, then choose accessories that aren’t too expensive. This may be a scarf, a handbag, or even jewellery. Then you can look trendy, without spending big on a trend that will be done and over in a few weeks.
4). Stick to Shoes & Accessories
If you’re sure about whether or not certain styles look good on you, then opt instead to buy accessories and shoes. We all have those days when nothing seems to fit right, look right, or feel comfortable. Those days can be very discouraging.
So, if you’re having a run when nothing seems to work, then shoes and accessories are usually a safe bet. This can include handbags, jewellery, different types of footwear, belts, scarves, and so much more! Shopping for accessories can be so much fun! You’ll still have something new to show for your efforts, without falling into the temptation of buying something you’re not happy with in the end.
5). Shop Online
If shopping in the store just isn’t your thing, then you may enjoy shopping online instead! Not only can you avoid the hassles and crowds of shopping in the store, you can take your time and shop for those things you truly need or want. Online stores are open 24/7, so you can shop when you have the time or feel like it!
If you’re worried about spending too much time online shopping, or concerned about overspending, then come up with a budget before you start shopping. Take a look at your budget and decide exactly how much you can spend. Then when you’re shopping online, set a timer to make sure you don’t spend untold hours looking for perfect sweater or dress.
Make a promise to stick to your budget and end your online shopping excursion when the timer beeps. Then you’ll be OK. If you don’t find something this time, the stores will be waiting for your next online shopping trip!
6). It’s Not the End
The goal of all the magazines, online stores, and websites is to make us feel we have to have the perfect summer dress or shorts. We just can’t enjoy the summer without that special swimsuit.
Then there are those magazines, and more telling us we need to be in shape, lose the weight and have the perfect body in order to have fun and explore.
The truth of the matter is that it’s all just hype to get us to spend. And what happens if you don’t achieve the “perfect body” in time for your vacation? Your vacation’s booked already, so what are you going to do? Just sit at home and feel badly? No!
We don’t have to live our lives according to what the media says we should or shouldn’t do. Instead, choose a path that’s right for you. If you haven’t lost the weight, so what? Find new clothes that accent your figure. Who says you can’t enjoy a summer vacation or a ski trip because of your body size, and more?
Get out there and shop until you drop, look for classics and stay on budget. Have fun on your trip and be happy with who you are. You’ll have a great time and the media won’t be any the wiser!
