Are you looking for a way to de-stress and enjoy a hobby, or learn something new for free? Then you’ve come to the right place! We’ve put together a list of ideas to help find something that brings you some stress relief and joy.

Hobbies are a great way to learn new things, meet new people, have new experiences and are proven to help lower stress. And we should add hobbies can also build up your self-confidence, or even improve your performance at work. Consider one of the following hobbies—these are all free!

1). Foraging

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to forage for some of your food? Is that even possible? Yes! And it’s a great way to save on your grocery bill, while also enjoying nature. So, what can be found through foraging in the UK?

We found the Woodland Trust offers some great guidelines on how to forage responsibly and sustainably. You can review their guidelines here, which include information on what to do before you start picking those juicy berries—ask for permission first. They also provide information on how to identify plants that are edible and those that aren’t, where and how to collect and much more.

The trust explains that it’s necessary to leave plenty of food for the wild animals who rely on those food sources, as well as not collecting rare species. They also help you learn about wild plants and the law, just to help you stay out of trouble. The site even provides some yummy recipes for the food you’ve foraged!

2). Web Design

Have you ever wanted to learn how to do web design? Then now’s a great time to learn. Not only will this challenge your mind, but you’ll also learn new skills that could be used to earn money on the side.

There are plenty of free courses available online to get you started. Try these free web design courses at Home and Learn. They’ll take you from the very beginning all the way through to getting your site online.

If you take up web design as a hobby, then you can build websites for family and friends. With enough practice and skill, this is a hobby that could easily translate into a side gig or even full-time work. Web design skills are needed more now than ever, and demand for these skills will only continue to grow over the next few years.

3). Hunting for Freebies

You don’t need a hunting or gun license for this hobby, we promise! If you’re one who loves to hunt for bargains, then might consider joining a group such as the Free Stuff Facebook group. Of course, this is a free group, where everyone enjoys finding freebies. The group shares freebies of all kinds such as free products, they share hints to get the most out of free stuff and more.

One bonus, if you’re great at finding unique freebies that haven’t been shared on the group’s site, then they may reward you with free Amazon vouchers!

What could be more fun than hunting freebies and working with others who enjoy the same activity?

4). Learn a New Language

Have you ever considered learning a new language just for fun? Or are you planning some trips to locations around the world? Then you may enjoy taking some free language courses.

There are many free language learning resources online. Check out Duolingo, for instance. You can use their site, and the also have a free app for your smartphone. You can learn a ton of languages for free including Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Greek, Czech, and more. The site is free and fun to use—in fact, it’s a little bit like playing a video game, but easier.

Another free language resource to try is Open Culture, where you can choose from over 48 languages to learn online for free!

Not only is learning another language fun, but it’s a great opportunity to learn about another culture, people and country. In addition, you’ll be boosting your brain power, improving memory and enhance your decision-making skills. All for free!

5). Learn to Play an Instrument

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play an instrument, but just didn’t have the time or money? We can’t help you with time, but we can help you find lessons on how to play an instrument for free!

Music lessons don’t come cheap. However, with the Internet, it’s possible to get around these issues. You can learn how to play your favorite instrument with a tool such as YouTube!

What if you don’t have an instrument? No problem! If you have a tablet or a smartphone, then you have access to free musical instruments. You can find everything from drums and keyboards, to autoharps and the vuvuzela! Just do a search in your OS (Apple or Android) app store and see what’s available. While these won’t be exactly like the real instrument, you can still learn with these until you can gain access to real instrument. Plus, they’re fun and you can take your virtual instrument anywhere!

Taking up a hobby can do so much—from relieving stress, to helping you learn a new skill. Plus, a hobby can be a lot of fun! Even if you’re low on money, check to see if there are free resources to help you learn new things!
